Caring for the environment isn't new for us — it has shaped HARO for more than 150 years.
Sustainability isn't a recent addition for HARO — as a family business now in its fifth generation, thinking ahead and treating resources responsibly has shaped how we work for over 150 years. A real timber floor is one of the most sustainable surfaces you can choose: it stores carbon, it lasts decades, and at the end of a long life it returns to nature.
Responsibly sourced timber
Hamberger Flooring has been PEFC-certified since 2004, and HARO was the first parquet brand in Europe to be 100% PEFC-certified. We use only wood from certified forestry — so no more is taken from the forest than grows back — and we make the most of every tree, recycling the wood waste from production rather than letting it go to waste.
Energy self-sufficient, since 1971
That wood waste has fuelled our own green electricity since 1971. Together with our biomass power plants and a hydroelectric station on the Sims River — which flows right through the factory grounds — we are energy self-suppliers, generating enough to run our production and power around 8,000 households besides. Hydropower has driven HARO since the company was founded.
Healthy, PVC-free floors
Sustainability is also about what goes into a floor. Our laminate and design floors are free from PVC and plasticisers, and the whole range is held to a single promise — 100% healthy and safe — for our trade partners and for your home.
The Blue Angel
Many HARO floors carry the Blue Angel — the world's first environmental seal — awarded to low-emission products that are genuinely healthy to live with. Beautiful underfoot, and kind to the air you breathe.

Giving back in Australia
Closer to home, HARO Flooring Australia supports tree-planting initiatives — a small way of giving back to the landscapes our floors come home to.
Living from wood means looking after the forest.
Hamberger manages more than 250 hectares of forest around its home in the Bavarian Alpine foothills. That responsibility includes continuous reforestation, natural forest regeneration and repairing areas affected by storms and windthrow.
On a storm-cleared site above the River Inn, HARO worked with the regional forestry authority to plant 775 climate-resilient trees, with a greater share of deciduous species selected for the changing climate.
